The specifications in the design brief aimed to (1) address specific functional limitations of people with PD, (2) integrate gameplay features that provide a low barrier to use, (3) motivate the patient, (4) stimulate a desire for replaying, and (5) incorporate principles of motor skill learning. In the second stage, we selected, created, and combined key hardware and software assets to produce a unique system with a corresponding set of mobility training tasks. This system allows people with PD to practice tasks such as walking, reaching, turning, obstacle negotiation, and problem-solving in a fully immersive, 3D virtual environment.
Over the last two years of massive change and rupture, our internal cultures and practices had to radically pivot to adapt. From creating fully virtual workplaces to holding space for processing anti-Black racism, to accommodating the needs of working families, the internal workings of PSOs look about as different as our programming. That said, massive pivots do not in and of themselves guarantee more inclusive and equitable practices. Drawing on EPIP's 2018 Dissonance and Disconnects Report and our internal organizational transformation and policies, we'll explore how PSOs can mobilize this moment of rupture moving forward to implement organizational practices that disrupt white dominant cultural norms. We'll guide participants through interactive assessments of their own organizational cultures, and explore small adaptations they can start to make. What would a workplace culture that truly supported its early- and mid-career professionals look and feel like, and how would that benefit all staff? Join Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy for a 90-minute workshop to strengthen our commitments to transformative and inclusive work cultures.
